Braille and Tactile Signs within Buildings

Braille and tactile signs are required within buildings to mainly assist people with vision impairments. They also provide to help assist all building occupants with locating various facilities within a building.

Clause D3.5 of the BCA requires braille and tactile signs within the following facilities or areas of a building:

  • Accessible sanitary facilities;

  • Ambulant sanitary facilities;

  • Fire doors and exits;

  • Non-accessible building entrances;

  • Rooms with hearing augmentation systems; and

  • Non accessible sanitary facilities.

Notwithstanding the above, braille and tactile signs can be applied to other areas of a building which can provide a user friendly environment for all building occupants.
